JACK & JILL BATHROOM

I’ve talked about the before status of our Jack & Jill Bathroom here.

MOODBOARD —

WHAT WE’VE ACCOMPLISHED —

We started with moving the plumbing in the vanity area. I had to wait for the vanity to get here to do that. It has drawers and there is a very specific place the pipes needed to fall. My dad and Reed tackled that together using a mix of copper and PEX. Reed is now a master at PEX as we’ve had to use it in multiple places (it’s plumber approved). The next step was updating the height and pipes in the shower area. This shower was designed for literally someone my size - 5 foot 2 inches, so it needed to be raised about 2 feet. We installed the bathtub, as well. I chose a sleek, modern tub that I think will compliment the room so nicely. We finally have greenboard + cement board up in here and it’s being skimmed as we speak. YAY!

THE PLAN —

Here is the fun part! The plan is to do the Leanne Ford method in the washroom area where the bathtub and toilet are. I have done this method one other time and I love the look. If you don’t know what I’m talking about I’ll share an inspo pic below, but basically it’s a concrete texture on the walls. It is totally waterproof and it’s an awesome substitute in place of tile. The cost for tile in this space was $1,000+ and the cost for this texture will be approximately $200. I decided to save money here and I’ll splurge on other fun details. Not only is it cost effective, it’s also really beautiful and I love the organic look. This time I’ll be using the white packets so rather than be concrete color it will be WHITE.

THE TILE —

I went back and forth on my tile options for months. This actually ended up putting the project behind. Originally I was planning on using a charcoal hex tile from home depot that was super budget friendly but upon further investigation the reviews were not so great and I didn’t want to risk it. So I decided on Cle Tile encaustic cement tiles. I knew the quality was amazing because we purchased our laundry room brick tile from there. The decision that held me up was deciding between the charcoal color or a sage green color. Ultimately the charcoal won out. I liked that it was more transitional and I could implement other colors over time. I also used to have this weird love of mint and then one day couldn’t stand the color… so I worry about colors in that family haha. I’m into mint again but I’m very cautious to not overdo it.

THE MIRRORS —

This is another detail I struggled with. I originally was going to go with something that was a simple arch but I the more I thought about it the more I knew I wanted something a little different for the mirrors. Because the vanity and lighting was already heavy on the modern side, I wanted to balance it out with a little more vintage feel. I found these gorgeous mirrors from anthropologie. They’ve been on serious backorder so I’m still waiting but I love the look. They were on the pricier side so I consider it a little of my splurge for this room. I saved money on the tile and vanity, so I think it was the right call.
